Our Vision for Mission Parish Process
Direction #1 of The Way Forward:
“Support and challenge parishes and groups of parishes to be active and energized mission centres in their local communities and beyond.” (See Diocesan Mission.)
Motion of Synod 2008:
“Be it resolved that every parish in the diocese is challenged and encouraged on an annual basis to undertake an intentional process of visioning and planning with a focus on the parish’s mission to the surrounding community and wider world.
Our Vision For Mission
The Way Forward Management Council has designed a half-day process for your congregation’s visioning for mission. Parishes will find the process to be enjoyable and interesting.
Our Vision for Mission will result in a set of Vision Statements which will guide your congregation’s planning for new mission activities. If the congregation is already involved in mission or if it has already done visioning, the process will further clarify objectives and help to mobilize support.
Results can be shared with the diocese using a standardized reporting form. This information will assist in revising the diocese’s vision and in setting its budget. The Stewardship Council of the diocese will select parishes to work with that have already completed Our Vision for Mission. You are also encouraged to undertake a Workshop on Mission as part of your parish's visioning for mission.
When planning your parish event, allow approximately five hours (e.g. a Saturday from 10:00 to 3:00; the process can allow for lunch). Start advertising well in advance.
Aim for full attendance. Ideally, the active core and at least half the remainder of the parish will participate.
Every participant in the process will receive a booklet of follow-along instructions printed by the parish.
Sessions are intended to be facilitated by a pair of persons who have received training in the process.
