The Diocese of Rupert’s Land has engaged the Aboriginal people in ministry efforts. These efforts have ensured active pastoral ministry at Hodgson, Peguis, Fairford, the beaches, as well as other rural and urban areas.
The Rupert’s Land Aboriginal Circle (RLAC), which grew out of the Rupert’s Land Indigenous Council (RLIC), consists of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal partners who advise the bishop and Diocesan Council on Aboriginal ministry.
RLAC recommends projects to receive funding from the Diocesan Healing and Reconciliation Fund in concert with the Diocesan Council and plans and hosts events such as Sacred Circles. The RLAC advocated for Aboriginal ministry and mission in the Diocese, keeping before it the desire to live into the apology of the Anglican Church of Canada and federal government for healing and reconciliation in general and specifically in regard for damages incurred in Indian Residential Schools.
In 2006 Rupert’s Land Wechetowin, Inc was formed.
