Companion Diocese Team
The Diocese of Rupert's Land Companion Diocese Team is a committee whose mandate is to coordinate relations with our Companion Diocese, the Diocese of Central Buganda, Uganda. There are currently two programs in operation, the Uganda Orphans Project and the Link Parish Program.
Uganda Orphan Program
The Uganda Orphan Program started after a visit by eleven visitors from Central Buganda to the Diocese of Rupert's Land in the fall of 2002. When asked if there was any one thing that we in Rupert's Land could do to help their situation in Uganda, the immediate response was, “Help with the Orphans”. Because of HIV/AIDS, civil war and malaria, millions of Ugandan children are parentless. Caring for orphans in Central Buganda falls on the shoulders of relatives, leaving some with the impossible task of providing for upward of 15 to 20 children. Older Children are often left to take on the responsibility of raising their younger siblings. By supporting education, we are able to help provide an opportunity that orphaned children may not otherwise receive. Basic tuition is paid for by the government up to grade seven, but the additional costs for uniforms, lunches, examinations, school supplies and building fund are not provided. The Uganda Orphan's Fund provides some financial assistance which will allow some children to receive an education that would not be possible otherwise. To date, the Orphans Fund has contributed $62,971.00 to the orphans of Central Buganda. Donations to the Uganda Orphan's Fund can be sent to the Diocese of Rupert's Land.
Link Parish Program
The Link Parish Program connects Parishes in Rupert's Land with Parishes in Central Buganda. To date, there are 30 Parishes that are linked. The object is to communicate at a Parish level to foster a better understanding between the two Dioceses. May your Holy Spirit enable us to be loyal and steadfast partners in your service.
