Workshops on Mission

Is your parish vitally involved in God’s mission? Does it engage with its surroundings? Does it know where to start?

The Justice, Peace and Creation Committee of the Diocese of Rupert's Land is offering workshops to help parishes explore their response to God’s mission. Each 2–2.5-hour workshop will provide grounding in the values of God’s kingdom. Participants will consider concrete possibilities for new mission activity.

Experienced facilitators from our committee will be assisted by knowledgeable resource persons to put on a workshop for your parish. Each workshop will highlight a particular issue.

Workshop Themes

  1. Aboriginal Issues and Treaty Rights
  2. Affordable and Secure Housing
  3. Poverty
  4. Climate Change
  5. Food Security and Agriculture
  6. Millennium Development Goals
  7. Mental Health

If your parish would prefer to explore another issue not listed here, please contact us.

What We Need of You

Parishes desiring a workshop will:

  • Choose a workshop theme
  • Contact us to book a workshop
  • Book your hall as a venue
  • Provide at least fifteen participants
  • Provide refreshments
  • Publicize the workshop
  • Provide contact persons to organize locally and liaise with us

We encourage your parish to partner with a nearby parish for a joint workshop.

To book a workshop for your parish please contact missionrupertsland.ca or 992-4202. Due to holidays do not expect a direct response until the third week of January.

Note

It is our expectation that your parish will also be participating fully in the Our Vision for Mission process being offered by the Way Forward Management Council. Our workshops are intended to complement the visioning for mission process. Together they will help firm up your parish’s commitment to new mission.

Note also that the Stewardship Council of the diocese will be expecting parishes that avail themselves of their services to have participated already in the Way Forward visioning for mission exercise.

Food Security Links

Manitoba Food Charter

The Diocese became a signatory to the Charter at Synod 2006. The Manitoba Food Charter addresses the concerns of all Manitobans, by getting good food into the North, encouraging rural‐urban dialogue, and supporting food security projects in Winnipeg and across our province. A prayer card, available through clergy mailings, suggests ways parishioners can act to ensure a more just and sustainable food system for Manitobans. Feel free to duplicate and distribute the card widely.

In addition to encouraging individuals to act, the Manitoba Food Charter also invites parishes to consider taking action by assessing their food security related activities and signing the Food Charter. For more information about the Manitoba Food Charter, their website is at www.manitobafoodsecurity.ca or call 1‐800‐731‐2638. A Charter representative is happy to visit with your parish if you want to consider becoming a Signatory.
